Reelin expression in brain endothelial cells: an electron microscopy study
We published this week a new report showing that reelin—a large protein involved in neuronal migration and axonal pathfinding during development, and in neuronal plastiscity in the adult brain— may be able to cross the blood-brain barrier. These findings are relevant because previous studies have shown impairments in reelin expression in several neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease, autism, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
